Thinking of Installing Photovoltaic Panels?
PDF Print E-mail

Many individuals are trying to do all they can to preserve energy. They are attempting many different ways to do about this, and help protect our universe. One way is through the installation of Photovoltaic panels (otherwise known as solar panels) in their homes. There has been much controversy over the years if something like this is truly needed and does it really make a difference. It seems there are good and bad points for both arguments, but if this is something you are adamant on then good for you. Here is some information that may prove to be essential to you during this process.

Photovoltaic panels do not have to break your budget. Of course if you hire the largest "green" company in your area to install them they could run you upwards of 20K dollars. Know that you may be able to purchase panels that may have a small chip in them or a broken corner for a greatly reduced price. These panels will work just as well, and you can even install them yourself if you like.

Another way to save yourself some cash is to actually build your own panels. Believe it or not, this is not as complicated as it may actually appear to be. You may even be able to purchase the solar cells to build the panels on a place like ebay or check in a hardware store as well. People on ebay are usually selling solar cells which are less than perfect for a very good price. If you were to purchase a few of these, turning them into a panel would not be hard at all. In fact it would probably just need a few extra inexpensive supplies to be able to complete the project to your satisfaction standards.

There you have it. If you are set on getting Photovoltaic panels installed in your home, you do not have to break the bank. With a bit of ingenuity, you can actually have them for an affordable price. Once they are installed you will also be helping the earth and saving energy as well so it is definitely a win win situation.

How to Maintain Photovoltaic Panels in the Home
PDF Print E-mail

Well you feel as if you have done what was necessary. You wanted to conserve energy, save some money, and help the environment. You did what so many others are afraid to do. You installed Photovoltaic panels (solar panels) in your home. You feel quite proud of yourself, and you should be. Question is, do you know how to maintain these panels for optimum efficiency? You may thought once they are installed there is no real need to worry about them. Well part of that is true. They are easy to maintain, but they shouldn't be completely ignored and forgotten about.
Photovoltaic panels are durable. The only moving part they actually have is the pump. Their style thankfully is very simple and straightforward. When they were first being installed they were much more weak and fragile. As time progressed manufacturers realized that the parts had to be much more durable for long term use, which they corrected. Because of this solar panels are now really indestructible. The only part that can actually break is the glass covering. This actually makes maintaining the entire system quite easy and straightforward. Actually only a few suggestions are required and needed.

On a frequent basis you will want to inspect the solar panels. Make sure that everything is still on tight. Also, clear out any possible dirt and debris that may have actually accumulated during your last inspection. If your panels are installed in any area with many trees or increasing dust, they may have to be inspected more often than normally so keep that in mind as well. Next you will want to clean the panels with a mild abrasive to remove any dust and debris that has attached itself directly to the glass. Too much of this and the energy you are attempting to produce can greatly decrease. Also, make sure the glass is free of bird droppings too. Basically, that is your upkeep procedure in a nutshell. Pretty simple right? Even though it is simple understand that it is not being done just for cosmetic purposes. It is to keep your photovoltaic panels running at optimum efficiency for as long as possible. Good luck!

The Benefits of Solar Energy Systems
PDF Print E-mail

The results of relying on fossil fuels are mostly negative. They can release harmful substances into the air and can be expensive and difficult to maintain. This and the fact that fossil fuels are limited resources are forcing people to look for new alternatives to energy. They are looking into more natural forms of energy that are sometimes even cheaper than using fossil fuels. One such source of energy, that is already being used in some places, is solar energy. Solar energy is being captured and used by Solar Energy Systems. The use of such systems can have a large positive benefit to not only people, but the environment.

One aspect of using a system that takes advantage of solar energy is that it would not release harmful gases and chemicals into the air. Some other benefits are they are cost effective, semi independent, environmentally friendly, and there is very little maintenance. Another benefit, is the different objects they can power that people can use everyday such as solar eater heaters, solar energy rooftops, solar energy homes, solar battery chargers, solar powered lights, and solar cookers. There are also a few other benefits that might not seem so obvious. These include the fact that solar energy is free, there are a number of incentives that the government offers so people who use can reduce the cost, electricity bills, and money is saved on fuel expenses. Since it produces clean energy that does not use fossil fuels, harmful gases such as nitrogen oxide, mercury, carbon dioxide, and sulphur dioxide are not released into the air, which helps protect people and the environment. As Solar Energy Systems are invented, they are adding even more benefits to the already growing list.

The benefits of using Solar Energy Systems greatly out weigh any of the minor negative aspects of using the system. They offer clean energy at minimal cost to people and virtually no cost to the environment. They require little to no maintenance and are a reliable alternative to fossil fuels. It is no mystery as to why solar power is becoming more popular and more and more energy systems that take advantage of solar energy are being constructed.

Consider DIY Solar Power Solutions
PDF Print E-mail

User solar power in order to generate your own electricity can save you money and it is great for the environment as well. However, it can be prohibitively expensive to purchase the number of solar panels you would need to power your entire home using this method. Most systems of this type will cost $20,000 or more. However, there are other options you can consider, including DIY solar power.

There are actually instructions available that tell you how to create your own DIY solar panels. Sometimes these come with kits that include most or all or the materials you will need. This is one of the least expensive routes, however, if you don't do everything properly you might end up with panels that don't work right. Also, this type of panel is usually not as efficient as those that are professionally manufactured.

Another option for DIY solar power is to purchase used solar panels and install them yourself. If you are just purchasing a few panels to hook up to a generator this might be a viable solution. However, if you are trying to power your entire home you might want to hire an electrician to install your panels to make sure everything is safely wired. You have to be careful to make sure that the panels you purchase are in good condition and that they don't have any damage because repairs can get expensive. Also, keep in mind that there are a number of government programs that will pay you back some or all of the cost of switching to green energy sources like solar power, but only if you have the system installed professionally.

As you can see, there are some ways to convert some of your energy use over to DIY solar power. However, it would be a good idea to look into the different tax incentives and rebates and see whether you might be able to afford to set up a small system and have it professionally done, and then add to it as you can afford to since this gives you the best guarantee that everything will work well and that you will get the most benefit from your solar power system.
